DO NOW: Hep WARM UP: Pirate Ship PLAY: Questions Only PLAY: What? LEARNING GOAL: Apply improvisational skills to a scene-based game.
DO NOW: Hep PLAY: Lines From a Hat Two players start with a base reality suggested by the audience. They each have three lines of dialogue in their pocket. These are lines of dialogue written by class before the scene starts. When prompted by the facilitator, players will pull out a line of dialogue and read it aloud in character. Players then have to justify why it was said, and include it in the reality of the scene. TICKET OUT: How did performers "agree" to the offers in their pockets? DO NOW: Hep PLAY: Dimestore Novelist One player is the "novelist" who is writing a story (on a pantomime typewriter). Three more players are waiting on the side, ready to become characters as they are introduced. These players act out the story narrated by the novelist. The novelist pauses for dialogue from the characters. Be sure to include a beginning, middle and end. (Introduce a problem, and resolve it.) DO NOW: Hep BRAINSTORM: Create character suggestions for base reality. PLAY: Hitchhiker Four players are in a car. A fifth player draws a character type from the pile. They enter the car as that character (while the other players shift, and the driver exits) Everyone still in the car matches the character type of the hitchhiker. TICKET OUT: Goal Setting Self-assess how you're doing with principles of improvisation using the provided rubric. LEARNING GOAL: Practice principles of improvisation.
