DO NOW: Hep NEW GAME: Lines From a Hat Two players will start a scene, and establish "base reality." At some point, Mr. Hanlon will call "line," at which point one of the players will pull a line out of a hat, read it, and justify why it's being said. REFLECT: 1) Which principles of improvisation seem most important for this game? 2) What types of lines seem like they would be more/less effective in the game? BRAINSTORM: Contribute additional lines to the hat. PLAY: Lines From a Hat LEARNING GOAL: Learn to play a new game.
DO NOW: Hep WARM UP: Topeka Bodega NEW GAME: Countdown Three players are involved. Two begin, and a third adds in. PLAY: Lines From a Hat LEARNING GOAL: Practice principles of improvisation.
DO NOW: Hep One round of normal Hep. WARM UP: What Are You Doing (elimination style) Students count off by 2s and form two lines (1s vs 2s). Two players start, but after you respond to "What are you doing?," you move to the back of your team's line. Players can get eliminated for taking too long to respond, or for repeating answer that have been given before. To make it more challenging, use a different set of initials after each elimination. When playing with initials, you must respond with at least two words, starting with the given letters, in order. Example: Initials are "MH." Responses could include, "making hats" or "taking a monkey's heart out of his chest," but not "hearing music." PLAY: Yes, And Two performers are in the scene. Get character suggestions from the audience. The performers work together to improvise a short scene. Every time they speak, they must start their dialogue with "yes, and..." This agrees with the offer given to them, and adds another offer to the scene. LEARNING GOAL: Understand "Game" and "First Unusual Thing."
DO NOW: Hep DO NEXT: Zombie Tag (recorded) THINK/PUZZLE/EXPLORE: Comedy Improvisational Manual Read one page from the manual. What thoughts do you have? What questions does it create for you? What do you want to explore in a scene based game? PLAY: What? Two players will start a scene, and Mr. Hanlon will occasionally call "What?" Erase what was just said, and replace it with a new statement. |
