Do Now: Preliminary Research Goal Settin What is one question that you want to answer regarding your topic? What do you want to know? Driving Question: Your project isn’t just about “making something.” Your project should make something that answers a question. This question then drives the work of your project. Q: Why do innocent people confess to crimes they didn’t commit? Q: Why are humans dependent on entertainment? Q: How can I convince peers that bees are an important part of their life? Q: What impact does an environmental disaster have on the economy of a community? Which of the above examples is the most interesting to you? Why? Studio Time: Proposal Use the Driving Question Generator or Question Starts to develop the research portion of your proposal. Ticket Out: Demonstrate / Share connections you are making to professionals academically or creatively. Options: -Show a short snippet of video. -Read and share research facts. -Connect Jamboard to articles or inspirations for the final end product.

Do Now: Goal Setting At the end of the hour, everyone will share the PRELIMINARY RESEARCH section or the PROFESSIONAL MODEL section of their proposals. TODAY’S GOAL = Find professionals that support your thinking / claims / ideas / etc. What do you need to do today in order to be ready for the Ticket Out? Studio Time: Proposal Continue brainstorming or working on your proposal. One-on-one conferences with Mike regarding research plan. Ticket Out: Demonstrate / Share connections you are making to professionals academically or creatively. Options: -Show a short snippet of video. -Read and share research facts. -Connect Jamboard to articles or inspirations for the final end product. DO NOW: From your brainstorming, select 2 ideas that you think are workable.
THIS OR THAT: Everyone is going to share 2 project ideas. After each student presents, the audience will vote on which one should be pursued. NOTE: You are not required to honor the vote, but it’s good feedback about what your audience is interested in. STUDIO TIME: Continue brainstorming or working on your proposal. TICKET OUT: What was the most interesting idea you heard from a peer. LEARNING GOAL: Identify skills that can be used this semester in PBlock.
Hangout w/Mike. DO NOW: What is a skill that you are proficient in? In 5 minutes, create a product that demonstrates your proficiency. (Example: Mike can write a script at the drop of a hat.) MICRO EXHIBITIONS: Share! What is your skill? How will you show it? MIND MAP: Add your skills to the mind map. STUDIO TIME: Continue brainstorming or working on your proposal. TICKET OUT: Email Mike: What do you think is your best idea right now? LEARNING GOAL: Use divergent thinking to expand upon initial ideas.
DO NOW: What ideas came to you overnight? Add at least one new pink sticky note idea onto the Jamboard. CLASS NEEDS: Make sure you have a notebook you can dedicate to this class, and leave in the classroom. WORD CONNECTIONS: Have someone suggest two random, unconnected words. Write those words on a whiteboard with four blanks in between. Students do the same on paper. Ex: FILE ____ ____ ____ ____ HELP Students fill in the blanks on their paper by chaining related words from one end to the other. Ex: FILE NAILS HAMMER TOOLS USEFUL HELP Students share out word-chains that they are particularly proud of. Repeat the process with three blanks. Then two blanks. Then one blank. No repeating words MIND MAPS: Pull a sticky note from the whiteboard and place it onto the center on the back of your Beane Protocol. Build connections off of that initial sticky note. ASSIGNMENT: Proposal in Google Classroom. Draft due by February 3rd. Final due by February 10th. STUDIO TIME: Continue brainstorming with a mind map or the Beane protocol TICKET OUT: Share one word to represent your best brainstorming so far. LEARNING GOAL: Identify concerns you have with the world.
DO NOW: Jot down a minimum of 3 key words that represent interests you have. Write your keywords on yellow sticky notes. TEACHER TOUR: I will share their own sticky notes of interests, explaining each one while putting them on the whiteboard. STUDENT SHARE: Students will then add their own keywords to the board while explaining at least one of them in depth. BRAINSTORMING: Space your sticky notes out, and add new ideas with green sticky notes. Draw connections between notes. BEANE PROTOCOL: Use the Beane Protocol to brainstorm thoughts about the world around you. |
